The Mayor Harold Washington Legacy Committee extends our deepest condolences and prayers to the Leak family on the passing of Spencer Leak, Jr.
Chicago has lost more than a respected businessman and funeral director—we have lost a compassionate servant leader whose life's work was dedicated to helping others through some of their most difficult moments.
For decades, Spencer Leak, Jr., provided comfort, dignity, and care to thousands of families across our city. Through his leadership at Leak & Sons Funeral Homes, he became a trusted presence in the lives of countless Chicagoans, offering not only professional service but genuine compassion and humanity.
A proud steward of a family legacy that has served Chicago for generations, Spencer carried forward a tradition of excellence, community service, and respect for all people. Whether comforting grieving families, mentoring young people, supporting civic causes, or helping those in need, he embodied the values of service and compassion that strengthen our communities.
His impact extended far beyond the walls of the funeral home. He was a pillar of Chicago's Black community, a friend to many organizations and leaders, and a man whose kindness left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him.
